The Brief History of the Dead by Kevin Brockmeier

dead

Generally speaking, most of us liked The Brief History of the Dead, though no one really liked the ending.

Highlights:

  • Did the memories of the living not only put the people in the city, but also create the environment there?
  • Crossing over was such a unique experience for everyone
  • Interesting how people created “families” in the city
  • Some people in the city saw it as a chance to finally do what they really wanted
  • Would celebrities or famous historical figures have been in the city?  Or would you have had to actually meet them?
  • Luka’s compulsion to do headlines was annoying, but he did put together the story of what was happening in the “real” world because of interviewing people
  • Would you also remember thousands of people if you were stranded and had nothing else to do?
  • What happens after the city??!
  • How much you hold onto the past really affects you in life
