Most of us liked it pretty well, although there were definitely some disappointing bits of writing, characters, plot points, etc. Some highlights:
- Salander was interesting, well-written character; Mikael was hard to get to know
- Lots of abusive men in the book – you couldn’t trust anyone
- Statistics at the beginning of chapters were pretty startling – worse here in the U.S.?
- The author got the idea for this story when he was young and witnessed a gang rape
- Is Lisbeth the perfect victim? Intimidating? Does she have Aspergers? No on Aspergers – she just used her survival instincts – she was easy victim, but turns herself into weapon
- She usually backed off from touch but didn’t seem to mind Mikael touching her
- Henrik – don’t pick a fight you can’t win, but don’t back down if someone insults you – that describes Lisbeth, Henrik with Wennerstrom, and Mikael with Wennerstrom
- Lisbeth with Bjurman – admirable or horrible? It was really over the top, but kind of perfect – she weighed her options carefully about whether or not to kill him, how, etc. – will he come back in the trilogy?
